Alias Repair Options
File Buddy can attempt to locate a new target for a broken alias when one is encountered during a scan. Items on one or more volumes can be compared to the following information stored in the alias about the original to determine if it is an acceptable match.
Alias repair criteria
The following information about an original is stored in an alias when it is created, and updated whenever the alias is used by the Finder. All checked criteria must match in order for an item to be considered an option for repairing an alias. The options are:
Name/Path
Match the file name or full path, as chosen in the pop-up menu.
Creation Date
Match the creation date.
Creator
Match the creator code.
File Type
Match the file type.
Limiting the number of originals
Use the Maximum number of new targets per alias menu to choose a maximum of 5, 10, 15, or 20 results per alias for new originals.
Where to search for new targets
See the Choosing locations for searches and scans section for information on how to choose locations to search for originals.
